A NEW YEAR- A NEW HEADQUARTERS
A look back on what has been happening in the Nevada Area Council.
2013 was a year filled with new beginnings, growth and goals. The most exciting news, of course, is the Nevada Area Council, Boy Scouts of America's new home. We have staked claim to what couldn’t have been a more fitting location- 500 Double Eagle Court Reno, Nevada. This beautifully renovated building is now home to the Webster Scouting Resource Center, Arthur M. Smith Jr. Regional Conference Center, and the Ron Krump Trading Post.
As a special thank you, the Nevada Area Council hosted an event honoring Ranson Webster, T. J. Day, Ron Krump, and Arthur M. Smith Jr., whose contributions were instrumental in funding the new center. The Good Scout Lunch on December 16 had over 125 guests in attendance, including Mayor Cashell. The lunch was s’mores themed, complete with s’mores tree centerpieces and Rolla Roaster marshmallow roasting party favors. Outgoing President Sandy Rogers, along with her husband, incoming President and Chairman of the Good Scout Lunch, Jim Rogers, spoke and gave thanks to all involved.
Following the Good Scout Lunch, on December 17th the Nevada Area Council celebrated the construction of their new home with an official Open House. More fitting to the Scouting motif than a traditional ribbon cutting, the Council commemorated the opening with a log cutting led by T.J. Day and Ranson Webster. Apart from the unique opening ceremony, the open house included tours of the facility, a grand opening sale in the Scout Shop, delicious appetizers and a hot chocolate bar- thoroughly enjoyed by all the kids.
Overall, 2013 was filled with tons of excitement and expansion. We have lots of plans and ideas in mind for 2014, so stay tuned to join us in the adventure!
